Festival Republic is proud to support ActionAid. Since 2002 ActionAid has teamed up with us at Reading Festival to give thousands of people the opportunity to say "Bollocks To Poverty!" and take action against HIV, unfair trade, corporate abuse, climate change and hunger.

ActionAid are delighted that the Haiti Earthquake fundraiser has chosen them as a beneficiary. The earthquake has been a complete tragedy for Haiti, already the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
Up to one-third of the population of Haiti has been affected by this devastating earthquake, the worst seen in the country for 200 years. Haiti’s Prime Minister is estimating that up to 100,000 people may have been killed, and three million people could be affected. Many people are still trapped under the rubble of fallen buildings. There are now serious concerns for the survivors’ health and safe water, sanitation and food become scarce.
ActionAid Haiti Country Director, Jean-Claude Fignole has described the situation being faced: “Conditions are catastrophic - absolutely catastrophic. I have seen some of the most horrible things I have seen in my life. I am putting out a plea to the government, to any of the authorities co-operating with Haiti, to help clean up the bodies on the streets because the health and the sanitation of this situation for the city are potentially of epic proportions."
ActionAid's response
ActionAid has a long-established programme in Haiti. Our staff and partners are already there working with communities and helping the poorest and most vulnerable people. Emergency specialists are on their way to help local staff to deliver food, shelter, blankets, soap and other items. We will also be providing counselling and support to Haitians who have lost loved ones in the earthquake. We urgently need to raise £800,000 for immediate relief, to provide water, food and shelter for around 20,000 people.
Richard Turner, Director of Fundraising, ActionAid UK has called out to supporters
“Now is the time to help - this event will help us to provide emergency care and rebuild the lives of Haitians in the long-term. The earthquake has been a brutal reminder of the force of nature, but also of the capacity of mankind to ease the suffering of others in their hour of need. We are delighted to receive this support.”
All funds donated to ActionAid from the Haiti Earthquake fundraiser, will be spent ensuring ActionAid can continue supporting the communities affected, helping them to re-build their lives, restore livelihoods and recover from the trauma of the earthquake.

"On behalf of our patients, our international medical volunteers and our Haitian staff we would like to thank you. By organising the Haiti Earthquake Fundraiser At The Roundhouse you are showing incredible initiative and compassion. Your hard work compliments that of our medical who are
working 24 hours a day to save the injured in Haiti. So far we have treated over 1,500 people; people with burns; people with broken bones and head injuries; people in need of amputations as gangrene sets in; children orphaned by the earthquake. The numbers affected are incomprehensible. But each one of you is helping one or more of them, in their greatest hour of
need. And MSF is sincerely grateful to you."
