Using biofuel at The Big Chill

The Enchanted Garden at this year's Big Chill Festival will be run on bio fuel.

It is estimated that up to 10,000 litres of bio fuel will be used over the weekend.

The biofuels are made from tallow (animal fats) and used cooking oil, currently considered to be the most sustainable feedstocks available. Additionally, the feedstocks are originally from the UK, further reducing the environmental impact of the finished fuel.

According to the Government's standard reporting figures used for the carbon and sustainability requirements of the Renewable Fuel Transport Fuel Obligation, UK-sourced tallow and used cooking oil both produce biodiesel with average greenhouse gas emission reductions of 85% over crude-oil-derived diesel.

By using biofuels from waste products, Chillers can rest assured they are not participating in future environmental issues.
