Joe Goddard
Joe Goddard has become a somewhat inescapable figure over the past few years. Though best known for his savvy songwriting and synth-wizardry, all wrapped in layers of Kraftwerky electro-pop, Joe's record box is packed with juicy hip-hop and funky beats guaranteed to get your feet moving.
The Enchanted Garden
Sonic Journeys #1: Will Gregory (Goldfrapp)
Sonic Journeys is the beginning of a new collection of aural landscapes that connect the creator, listener and music with the world around us. Sonic Journeys, produced by sounduk, commission artists to create new works in response to specific stretches of landscape that inspire them. The first artist to create their journey will be the talented musician and songwriter, Will Gregory, best known as one half of the group Goldfrapp. Gregory will compose a score of music inspired by his own personal journey through a specific route at Eastnor on foot, which you'll be able to download before the festival (along with a handy map of Will's route). Watch this space for more info!
The Clash Stage
Joining the Mystery Jets, Bonobo, Caribou, Riva Starr and many more aboard The Clash Stage (set upon a boat designed by acclaimed Super Furry Animals artist Pete Fowler) are...
Chris Coco
Chris Coco turned Brighton's Zap club into the south coast's party epicentre he's been juggling multiple careers as a broadcaster, Radio 1's 'Blue Room' co-host and DJ Magazine's editor, as well as a globe-trotting DJ, spinning at parties around the world. Due to release his new album 'Feel Free Live Good' on the Big Chill's record label later this year, we can't think of a better place to catch Chris perform.
Primary 1
Primary 1 is a musician, producer and singer who straddles an impressive range of styles, described by the Guardian as 'feel good synth funk anthems with nagging infectiousness and easy danceability.' Armed with a wicked sense of humour and an encyclopedic knowledge of movies, his music is chock full of stop-start melodies, bouncy synths, urgent stream-of-consciousness vocals and even the odd brass section.
LoneLady
LoneLady emerged from Manchester in 2005, armed with a Telecaster, a 4-track and a drum machine. LoneLady's first show outside Manchester was at 2006's SXSW festival in Texas - where she was invited to play on the strength of her 4-track recordings and, before long, LoneLady had signed to the prestigious Warp Records.
Villagers
One of Domino's latest slew of excellent signings, Villagers are a Dublin quartet whose gentile, yet robust strummed musings bring to mind Devendra Banhart and the hugely successful Mumford & Sons.
Bass Clef
A giddy live act and analogue fetishist of the bottom end kind, Bass Clef's live shows bypass laptop/looping and embrace a heavy and warm sound full of ringing cow-bells, woozy trombone blasts and theramin effects that are guaranteed to make you wiggle to their delicously rhythmic undertow.
Gallops
Gallops arrive at The Big Chill, armed with their immense and complex glitchy instrumental post-rock soundscapes. Together this four-piece band create cerebral, experimental and heavy pieces of music channeling a wide range of styles and influences into a sound that has been described as 'cyborg soul music'.
The Revellers' Stage
Ty
One of the most revolutionary rappers on the British scene, Mercury Prize nominee Ty embodies the intellect, talent and ferocity of an MC always destined to become a legend. Over the years Ty has worked with luminaries such as De La Soul, Arrested Development, Talib Kweli and Estelle, to name but a few. Armed with a new album of tracks to perform at the festival, it's a pleasure to welcome Ty back to The Big Chill!
Akala
Emerging from London's underground hip-hop scene, Akala burst into the mainstream as one of the leaders of a new British artistic renaissance. Akala has made it his mission to challenge preconceptions and buck prevailing trends, breaking down the culture of stereotypes that smothers the genre he loves, giving impetus to this convention-defying MC.
Dansette Junior
Dansette Junior combine hypnotic comedy-sequence lyrics, analogue synths and computer geekery to create a unique blend of edgy electro pop. Their anarchic live shows brought them to the attention of label-mate, Calvin Harris, who invited the trio to support him on his 2009 arena tour. Expect Dansette Junior to lead a highly charged sonic assault on the Revellers' Stage!
Stac
Stac is set to wow the crowds in the Paradiso Tent this year. You may not have heard of Stac or her myriad layers of off-kilter and highly original soulful sounds yet, but as she's recently lent her vocal talents to various house and chill out tracks, as well as being remixed by the likes of Bonobo, we're pretty sure you will soon!
